Read who is currently sitting in fifth spot in
the championship and Terry Sainty are our first
pair of qualifiers for Top Fuel here this
weekend, Read is off the gas peddle very early
but Sainty keeps the boot in and not a bad pass.

Darren
Morgan alongside Phil Lamattina, Darren and Phil
are currently sitting first and second in the
championship with Lamattina in the lead,
Lamattina lays down a solid pass although it
looks as though it is eating the cylinder heads
about half track, but Morgan he buttons off on
the leave and aborts the run.

Phil Read,
this will be a somewhat sad meeting for him as he is
about to hand over his number one crown, up against
Darren Morgan who we saw out here this morning
crewing on his son’s junior dragster. Morgan is in,
Read is in, Reads started chewing itself up about
half track, Morgan smoking the tyres through the top
end.

Terry Sainty
is on a solo for this qualifying session, they are
the only All Aussie Top Fuel Team, everything made
and invented in this country. Short hope off the
line and it erupts into a fire ball around the
thousand foot mark, and has cost him in e.t. The
crew think it could be a long afternoon as it was
the rods.

Allan Dobson
on the track now, alongside him Martin Stamatis,
Dobbo driving for Santo Rapisarda, side by side
passes here. Stamatis clicks it early as the
dragster starts to move around, he slots into number
two. Dobson has a few problems on the leave, but
Dobson still in fourth.

Lamattina on track, Luke Shepherd in the lane next
to him with Wize Guys as the dragsters new sponsor,
the Carrot mobile into stage, they are off but Luke
Shepherd bursts into flames as Lamattina’s dragster
steps out and Phil having to do a bit of a drive
job.

and Phil Lamattina, Read sounding very strong in the
burnout, likewise Lamattina, this will be a great
pass, the retiring champion up against the current
points leader, huge engine explosion for Phil Read
and he is still burning in the breaking area, a
straight pass for Lamattina.

man from Perth Allan Dobson, supercharger belt
exists Dobsons car before half track, not sure what
was wrong with Morgan but neither of these cars have
improved their current standings.

Allan Dobson
and Luke Shepherd, are the first pairing of Top Fuel
Competitors to make their way down the quarter mile
and on the leave there is a bang and a burst of
flames from Shepherd on the get go with cylinders
exiting, followed by a bang and burst of flames by
Dobson, it was a roll fest to the finish line and
Dobson wins the roller race first.

Phil
Lamattina up against Phil Read, now Read has no
chance of winning the Championship and Lamattina has
already won the Championship, he just had to
qualify. This is a tough run, but Read smokes the
tyres but has a couple of steps on the throttle for
a lose, Lamattina another dragster straight down the
quarter tough as they come for the win.

Morgan has the bye run due to his Top Qualifying
position, will he throw everything at it to please
the great crowd here at Willowbank Raceway. Flames

Australian Championship, Allan Dobson and Darren
Morgan, two favourite competitors here at Willowbank

These two
competitors coming to the line are Australia’s NEW
Number One and Two Championship winners for the
08/09 season – Allan Dobson versus Phil Lamattina,
they have both been stepping out to put on a great
show all weekend for the crowd, Dobson is out first,
Lamattina is on the hunt for him, just after mid
track there is a massive explosion from Dobson, and
Lamattina has taken the win…Australia’s Number One
and the Winter Nationals Winner.
