Wick Damon & Justin Walshe is our next pair of qualifiers, both cars leave hard, Walshe rattles the tyres but look at his mile an hour, he obviously made up for it in the second half of the field, it’s a stout qualifier from Damon.

Phil Otto the National Champion is up against Greg Leahy Leahy running under CC/AA trim, Otto on the B/AA trim.  Leahy certainly left hard and takes it through right to the finish line, its not a great pass by Otto he will be looking to improve on that.

Mark Davison in the very nicely presented altered is on a solo run, the driver is waving his hands around frantically, now this altered runs under BB/A, and on the leave, this is ugly and bang goes the blower belt.

The A/Dragster of Anthony Buckley oh my God have a look at this, he has down a straight down the line run, buttons it off early and he runs a 6.65, this is an outstanding run, he has slotted himself straight into top qualifier and killed the index for A/Dragster, wonder if he meant to do that.

Mario  Connor from Western Australia, now I believes  this is the first time we have seen this car here and they tell me the whole body is carbon and immaculately finished. Up against him the AA/FC of Anthony Begley, this is not looking pretty for  Connor as it leaves the line in a rolling start and get ugly on the leave, not a great run for Begley either but an amazing Funny Car

Dean McLennan also on a solo run in his funny car, this is Deans first qualifying pass for the weekend and there is a little bit of a vision problem with the funny cars, this Funny is drifting around the quarter and used up a lot of the lane for a 6.59.

Wick Daymon and Anthony Begley, Begley is in a funny car and I expect he is having the same vision problems as McLennen.  Both shoot out off the start line, but Begley has it all sorted and this thing is on a mission. Daymon has a little bit of a drive around his lane and aborts the pass.

Glenn Anderson and Chris Stewart, I am impressed with the Statesman of Stewarts, but he leaves way too fast and leaves the cherry and has the chutes out early on the pass, he will be looking for a better time tomorrow, Anderson will also be looking for a much more competitive time come the morning qualifying.

Greg Leahy in the altered for Geezers is alongside the AA/AP of Murray O’Connor, rumour has it that O’Connor is going to Top Doorslammer next year, the car is certainly amazing to look at.  O’Connor moves from 13th spot to fifth spot with that pass, and Leahy…well he had a very up close and personal look at the wall, before aborting his pass.

Wayne Price lined up with Michael Davies in this final qualifying session, with the Funny Car to do the chasing. AA/FC up against a BB/A, it’s an ugly pass from Price even though it leapt off the line and shut it off early.  Michael Davies not quite as good as his last pass.

Shane Baxter in the Competition Cams lane, Wayne Cartledge in the Rocket lane, these are two of the most experienced competition competitors, both are currently sitting in the top half of the field.  Baxter only 331 cubes of Chev on board, and they both leave hard, Baxter has the chutes out early and Cartledge will take the win light.

Chris Stewart will take on Graeme Frawley, Frawley in sixth position, Stewart in tenth.  Both are going to try and move themselves into the top half of the field. Can Stewart move into top half and bump Frawley into the bottom half, Stewart will not improve on time but Frawley it’s a good pass from under the index, but it only moves him up one spot.

Anthony Buckley already holds top position by a mile and a half, Anthony Begley alongside him and if positions stay the same the same this will be the first round match up tomorrow, so this is great practice.  Begley will be trying to move up to the top half of the field to avoid Buckley tomorrow who is running .8 under his dial in. Begley is out like a bullet and Buckley is just going for a cruise getting data. Begley runs faster but does not improve his position.

Murray O’Connor against Glenn Anderson, the altered of Andersons does not sound good during the burn out procedure and the fire goes out – he is pushed back, O’Connor will go on his own, and it stands up on the tyres right off the get go and it’s an aborted run.

Phil Otto the current number one in Comp, and yet again leading the points chase this year, alongside him Greg Leahy, Leahy is currently sitting in fifth spot in the championship.  Otto shakes the tyres and turns towards the wall, he had to have a peddle before he could right it, he has only qualified in fifth spot from his previous run, Leahy sits in the tenth spot and will face Justin Walshe in the first round should positions stay the same.

Dean McLennan into his burnout routine, this does not sound good, it doesn’t come back to idle after the burnout and it seems to be suffering from some front tyre shake.

Mark Davison on a solo pass and it just didn’t sound right from the get go.

The Anthony’s are on track now, Anthony Buckley versus  Anthony Begley.  Buckley has the performance advantage and the Funny Car will have to do the chasing. Nice leave by Buckley a snooze fest by Begley, you can see Begley throwing all he has at it, but he cant recover from the slow start.

Murray O’Connor just laid down a burnout worthy of a Top Doorslammer, Mark Davison in the altered gave it a good stab too. Murray O’Connor red lights his hope away and the win goes to Davison, this is a fantastic run despite everything for O’Connor.

Wick Dayman up against Glenn Anderson,  Anderson number 16th qualifier had the last race handed to him by Wayne Price who failed to start. Dayman has been a fierce competitor this weekend.  .03 of a second handicap to the ute, Anderson rolled through the beams and red lighted, Dayman was on and off the throttle all the way.

Justin Walshe and Mark Davison are heading towards the start line, Walshe needs to win to keep his championship dreams alive, but Davison is going to try and throw a spanner into that dream, Davison will get the head start but to even get a chance, he is going to have to whole shot Walshe.  Davison does have the better of the reaction time but he is all over the lane after he steps it out at half track…but Walshe moves on.

 Shane Baxter and Graeme Frawley, Baxter will do the waiting, there is some concern as to whether Frawley can get it going, he does and then flies into his burnout routine, they both head into stage, Baxter is in front, not sure what happened to Frawley he seemed to either loose steam or button it off and Baxter moves through another round.

Justin Walshe and Wick Dayman, 1.03 seconds head start to Dayman which would be enough to make a lesser man red light but I don’t believe that will happen here.  Walshe is a very experienced competitor, Dayman has red lit, but at the same time he threw everything at it and kangaroo hopped his way down the lane, with wheels up and down all the way.

Phil Otto and Justin Walshe are the finalists of Competition Eliminator, Otto gets the head start, this is an amazing race, Otto is out throwing everything at it, here comes Walshe and Walshe rounds up Otto.  The margin at the finish line is less than a thousandth of a second.
